Creamy vegan hemp milk made with just three ingredients.
Hemp milk is one of the easiest non-dairy milks to make. You don’t need a nut milk bag to strain it like you do for many other nut milks, so it’s not very labor intensive. All you need in order to make this is a few ingredients and a blender.
Hemp seeds have a mild, nutty flavor and even though they are tiny, they are packed full of nutrients. They contain amino acids to help build protein in our bodies, as well as high amounts of iron, magnesium, zinc and B vitamins. Hemp seeds are considered a complete protein source, making them very popular among vegans and vegetarians to help maintain a balanced diet.
In this recipe, you can use dates, or you can opt for a liquid sweetener if desired. I personally favor the dates, but it’s always nice to have more options, especially if you’re not a date fan.
- ½ cup shelled Hemp Seeds
- 3 cups Water
- ½ cup Dates or 3-4 Tbsp Maple Syrup
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Pinch of Salt
- If your dates aren't very soft, you can soak them in hot water for 30 minutes. After soaking, use the water as part of the 3 cups in the recipe for an even sweeter milk if desired.
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend for a few minutes until incorporated.
- Strain through a sieve for an even smoother consistency. You will notice a very small amount of hemp seed pulp left. You can discard this or use it in a recipe. Would be great in muffins.
- Store in refrigerator.
