Ingredients

  • tablespoon double-acting baking powder 
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda 
  • cups brown sugar packed
  • 1.5 cups butter softened
  • 0.5 teaspoon cream of tartar 
  •  eggs 
  • 5.3 cups flour all-purpose
  • tablespoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.

  4. Drop by level tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  5. Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Remove to wire racks to cool.
