  • tablespoons brown sugar 
  • tablespoons butter melted
  • tablespoons butter softened
  • 0.8 cup dates pitted chopped
  • large eggs 
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • tablespoons flour all-purpose
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cardamom 
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 35
  2. To prepare cake, coat a 9-inch square baking pan with cooking spray; set aside.
  3. Lightly spoon 2 cups flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife.
  4. Combine 2 cups flour and next 5 ingredients (through cinnamon) in a large bowl; make a well in center of mixture.
  5. Combine 5 tablespoons butter and the next 4 ingredients (through eggs) in a medium bowl; beat with a mixer at medium speed until blended.
  6. Add to flour mixture; stir just until moist. Stir in dates. Spoon batter into prepared pan.
  7. To prepare topping, combine sliced almonds and remaining ingredients, stirring with a fork until blended.
  8. Sprinkle evenly over batter.
  9. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan.
