Ingredients

  • 2.5 teaspoons double-acting baking powder 
  • tablespoons butter cold cubed
  • 0.7 cup dates chopped
  •  eggs lightly beaten
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • 0.3 teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  • 0.3 cup milk 
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • tablespoons sugar divided

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder and salt.
  2. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in dates.
  3. Combine eggs and milk; stir into crumb mixture just until blended (dough will be soft).
  4. Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead dough 10 times. Pat into a 9-in. x 6-in. rectangle. Using a floured knife, cut into six 3-in. squares; cut each square diagonally in half.
  5. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Combine the cinnamon and remaining sugar; sprinkle over scones.
  7. Bake at 400° for 12-14 minutes or until lightly browned.
  8. Remove to a wire rack.
  9. Serve warm.
