Ingredients

  • 1.5 teaspoons double-acting baking powder 
  • teaspoon baking soda 
  • 0.5 cup butter flavor shortening 
  •  eggs 
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon 
  • teaspoons orange zest grated
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • 0.8 cup cream sour
  • 1.3 cups sugar divided
  • teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. In a bowl, cream shortening and 1 cup sugar.
  2. Add eggs, sour cream and vanilla; mix well.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; stir into creamed mixture just until moistened.
  4. Pour half the batter into a greased 9-in. x 5-in. loaf pan.
  5. Combine cinnamon, orange peel and remaining sugar; set 1 tablespoon aside for the topping.
  6. Sprinkle remaining sugar mixture over batter. Carefully top with batter.
  7. Cut through batter with a knife to swirl.
  8. Sprinkle with reserved sugar mixture.
  9. Bake at 350° for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes; remove from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
