Ingredients

  • tablespoon double-acting baking powder 
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda 
  • 0.5 cup butter 
  • 0.7 cup buttermilk 
  • cup cranberries dried
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • tablespoon milk 
  • tablespoon orange rind grated
  • 0.3 teaspoon salt 
  • tablespoon sugar 
  • tablespoons sugar

Directions

  1. Combine first 6 ingredients; cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture is crumbly.
  2. Add buttermilk and dried cranberries, stirring just until moistened.
  3. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 5 or 6 times. Pat into an 8-inch circle.
  4. Cut into 8 wedges, and place 1 inch apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  5. Brush with milk, and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar.
  6. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes or until scones are golden brown.
