  • 0.5 teaspoon double-acting baking powder 
  • cup cornmeal 
  • large eggs 
  • cup flour all-purpose
  • 0.8 cup milk 
  • 0.3 teaspoon pepper 
  • large rutabagas peeled sliced
  • 0.3 teaspoon salt 
  • servings vegetable oil 
  • teaspoon vinegar white

Directions

  1. Soak rutabaga in salted water to cover 2 hours.
  2. Drain.
  3. Whisk together egg, milk, and vinegar until blended. Stir together flour and next 4 ingredients. Dip rutabaga slices in egg mixture; dredge in flour mixture.
  4. Pour oil to a depth of 2 inches into a Dutch oven; heat to 37
  5. Fry rutabaga, in batches, in hot oil until browned.
  6. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Sprinkle with additional salt.
