Ingredients

  • 15 oz kidney beans red drained and rinsed canned
  • oz tomato sauce canned
  • teaspoons chili powder 
  • clove garlic finely chopped
  •  hot dog buns whole-wheat toasted
  •  chicken hot dogs 
  • 0.5 cup cheddar shredded low-fat
  • small onion finely chopped
  • servings salt 
  • tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions

  1. Warm oil in a medium skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook, stirring, until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in garlic and chili powder and saut 30 seconds. Stir in tomato sauce and beans and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until sauce has thickened, about 10 minutes. Season with salt, if desired.
  3. Bring a large pot of water to boil.
  4. Add hot dogs and boil 5 minutes.
  5. Drain well, place on buns, top with chili and cheese, and serve immediately.
