  • teaspoon baking soda 
  • cup butter softened
  • cup powdered sugar 
  • teaspoon cream of tartar 
  •  eggs 
  • 4.5 cups flour all-purpose
  • cup sugar 
  • teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil 
  • cup walnut pieces chopped

Directions

  1. In a bowl, cream the butter, oil and sugars until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir in walnuts.
  4. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a glass dipped in sugar.
  5. Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  6. Remove to wire racks to cool.
