Ingredients

  • teaspoon almond extract 
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda 
  • 0.3 cup butter softened
  • cups powdered sugar 
  • teaspoon cream of tartar 
  •  eggs 
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • 36 servings purple gel food coloring 
  • 0.3 teaspoon nutmeg 
  • 0.3 teaspoon salt 
  • 0.8 cup sugar 
  • teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • tablespoons water hot

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, vanilla and almond extract.
  2. Combine the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and nutmeg; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  3. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  4. Bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes or until light brown.
  5. Remove to wire racks to cool.
  6. For frosting, in a large bowl, combine the butter, confectioners' sugar, almond extract and enough water to achieve desired consistency. Tint with food coloring if desired. Frost cookies.
