  • teaspoon baking soda 
  • cup brown sugar packed
  • tablespoons butter softened
  • cup dates chopped
  •  eggs 
  • 1.8 cups flour all-purpose
  • 0.3 teaspoon salt 
  • cup walnut pieces chopped
  • cup water boiling

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the dates and water; let stand for 15 minutes (do not drain). In a bowl, cream butter and brown sugar; add egg and mix well.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with dates and liquid. Stir in walnuts.
  3. Pour into a greased 8-in. x 4-in. loaf pan.
  4. Bake at 350° for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
