  • 0.5 cup apple cider 
  • ounce bread 
  • 0.3 cup brown sugar packed
  • pounds apples i use 2 granny smith apples peeled sliced
  • 0.3 cup granulated sugar 
  • 0.1 teaspoon ground allspice 
  • teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  • tablespoons juice of lemon fresh
  • teaspoon lemon rind grated
  • cups whipped cream low-fat
  • 0.1 teaspoon salt 
  • tablespoons stick margarine melted
  • teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 35
  2. Place bread in a food processor or blender; process until finely ground to measure 2 cups.
  3. Combine breadcrumbs and butter; set aside.
  4. Combine sugars and next 3 ingredients (sugars through allspice) in a large bowl. Stir in apple and the next 4 ingredients (apple through vanilla). Spoon 3 cups apple mixture into an 8-inch baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle with 1 cup breadcrumb mixture. Top with remaining apple and breadcrumb mixtures.
  6. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until bubbly. Cool on a wire rack. Spoon into 8 serving bowls; top each with 1/2 cup ice cream.
