Ingredients

  • 0.3 cup apple cider 
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar packed
  • tablespoon butter chilled cut into small pieces
  • large egg whites lightly beaten
  • 0.3 cup flour all-purpose
  • 2.8 pounds apples i use 2 granny smith apples peeled sliced
  • tablespoon granulated sugar 
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  • 15 ounce pie crust dough refrigerated (such as Pillsbury)
  • teaspoon water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 35
  2. Arrange apple in an 11 x 7-inch baking dish.
  3. Drizzle cider over apple.
  4. Lightly spoon flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife.
  5. Combine flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon; cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  6. Sprinkle flour mixture over apple mixture.
  7. Roll dough into a 12 x 8-inch rectangle.
  8. Place dough over apple mixture; fold edges under, and flute.
  9. Cut 3 slits in top of dough to allow steam to escape.
  10. Combine water and egg white, stirring well with a whisk.
  11. Brush dough with egg white mixture; sprinkle evenly with turbinado sugar.
  12. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
