Ingredients

  • teaspoons double-acting baking powder 
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda 
  • 0.8 cup buttermilk 
  • oz cheddar cheese grated
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • 0.1 teaspoon ground pepper red
  • 0.5 cup jalapeno chopped ( 3 jalapeños)
  • teaspoon salt 
  • 0.3 cup shortening cold

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 45
  2. Sift together first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut shortening into flour mixture with a pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs; stir in cheese and jalapeo.
  4. Add buttermilk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3 or 4 times. Pat or roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2-inch round cutter, and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Gather dough scraps together, and repeat.
  6. Bake at 450 for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm.
