Ingredients

  • 2.3 teaspoons double-acting baking powder 
  • 0.3 cup butter chilled cut into pieces
  • tablespoon butter melted
  • 1.8 cups buttermilk 
  • 0.3 cup chives fresh chopped
  • 0.3 cup shortening 
  • oz cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2.3 teaspoons sugar 
  • 3.5 cups self-rising soft-wheat flour

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 50
  2. Combine first 3 ingredients in a large bowl until well blended.
  3. Cut in shortening and butter with a pastry blender or a fork until crumbly; stir in cheese and chives.
  4. Add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  5. Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  6. Brush lightly with melted butter.
  7. Bake at 500 for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden.
  8. *Nonfat buttermilk may be substituted.
  9. Note: For testing purposes only, we used White Lily Self-Rising Flour.
