  • 0.3 cup bittersweet chocolate coarsely chopped

  • 28 ounce canned tomatoes diced canned (do not drain)
  • 15 ounce beans white such as cannellini (do not drain) canned
  • tablespoons chili powder 
  • 0.5 cup cilantro leaves fresh coarsely chopped
  • teaspoons thyme sprigs fresh finely chopped
  • medium garlic clove finely chopped
  • 0.8 teaspoon ground allspice 
  • teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  • tablespoons cornmeal 
  • 0.3 teaspoon nutmeg 
  • servings kosher salt 
  • quart chicken broth low-sodium
  • tablespoon olive oil 
  • 0.3 cup jalapeño peppers 
  • cups turkey shredded cooked
  • medium bell pepper yellow cored seeded
  • medium onion yellow

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic, season with salt and pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables have softened, about 5 to 8 minutes.2
  3. Add the chili powder, thyme, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg, stir to combine, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Add the turkey or chicken and stir to coat with the spice mixture.3
  5. Add the stock or broth, tomatoes and their juices, beans and their liquid, and jalapeos. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
