  • cup tortilla chips diced for garnish
  • 0.3 teaspoon pepper black freshly ground
  • 45 ounce pinto beans drained canned
  • cups chicken broth 
  • tablespoons chili powder 
  • pound chorizo 
  • tablespoons olive oil extra virgin 
  • tablespoons ground cumin 
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt 
  • pound ground beef lean
  • large onion finely chopped
  • 20 ounce canned tomatoes canned
  • ounce canned tomatoes canned
  • bag tortilla chips

Directions

  1. Heat oil in large dutch oven.
  2. Saute onion for 5 minutes, stirring often until softened.
  3. Add beef and chorizo, stirring and cooking until browned.
  4. Add broth, tomatoes, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper.
  5. Transfer to slow cooker and cook on low for 2-5 hours.Top bowls of chili with avocado, cilantro, tortilla chips and sour cream if desired.
