Ingredients

  • cup canned tomatoes with added purée canned crushed
  • 56 ounce canned tomatoes italian-style canned
  • 0.8 teaspoon basil dried
  • 0.8 teaspoon marjoram dried
  • 0.5 cup wine dry red
  •  garlic clove minced
  • tablespoons olive oil 
  • medium onion finely chopped
  • teaspoon oregano dried
  • 0.8 teaspoon pepper dried red crushed

Directions

  1. Heat oil in heavy large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion, garlic, oregano, basil, marjoram and crushed red pepper. Cover and cook until onion is translucent, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes.
  3. Add remaining ingredients; simmer gently, uncovered, until sauce thickens and measures 8 cups total, breaking up tomatoes with spoon and stirring occasionally, about 1 hour 15 minutes. Season sauce to taste with salt and pepper. (Can be prepared 2 days ahead. Cool slightly. Cover and refrigerate.)
