Ingredients

  • 12 medium apples i use 2 granny smith apples peeled cut into fourths
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar packed
  • 0.5 cup apple juice 
  • tablespoon ground cinnamon 
  • tablespoon juice of lemon 
  • teaspoon ground allspice 
  • teaspoon nutmeg 
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves 

Equipment

  • potato masher
  • slow cooker

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients in 5- to 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 10 hours or until apples are very tender.
  3. Mash apples with potato masher or large fork.
  4. Cook uncovered on low heat setting 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until mixture is very thick. Cool about 2 hours.
  5. Spoon apple butter into container. Cover and store in refrigerator up to 3 weeks.
