This baked beans recipe is not only crafted to cater to specific dietary needs but is also designed to tantalize the taste buds of every family member, making it a perfect side dish for any meal.

The star of this recipe is the meticulously prepared molasses sauce, which combines the rich sweetness of maple syrup, the depth of brown sugar, and the complex flavors of ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Paired with tender navy beans and a hint of chili powder, this dish offers a delightful balance of flavors that will have your guests asking for seconds.

The cooking process is straightforward yet yields a sophisticated result. Begin with soaking the navy beans, which allows them to absorb water and swell, making them more tender and easier to cook. Then, simmer the beans to bring out their natural flavors before baking them in a casserole dish with the molasses sauce, transforming them into a sticky, caramelized delight.

Serve these baked beans as a side dish at your next barbecue, family dinner, or festive gathering. Their rich, smoky taste, enhanced by the slow baking process, will complement any main course and leave your guests and family members reaching for more.

So why not give this recipe a try and elevate your side dish game? Your taste buds, and those of your loved ones, will thank you.

Ingredients

  • tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.1 teaspoon chili powder
  • cup navy beans dried
  • 0.1 teaspoon pepper black
  • 0.3 cup catsup
  • 0.3 cup maple syrup
  • tablespoons blackstrap molasses
  • small onion chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • cups water
  • teaspoon worcestershire sauce

Equipment

  • bowl
  • sauce pan
  • oven
  • pot
  • casserole dish

Directions

  1. Place the navy beans into a large container and cover with several inches of cool water; let stand 8 hours to overnight. Or, bring the beans and water to a boil in a large pot over high heat. Once boiling, turn off the heat, cover, and let stand 1 hour.
  2. Drain and rinse before using.
  3. Place the beans in a large saucepan with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 1 hour.
  4. Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Stir the ketchup, maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and chili powder together in a small bowl; set aside.
  5. Once the beans have simmered for 1 hour, drain, and reserve the cooking liquid.
  6. Pour the beans into a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish and stir in the chopped onion and the molasses sauce. Stir in enough of the reserved cooking liquid so the sauce covers the beans by 1/4 inch.
  7. Cover, and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then reduce the heat to 200 degrees F (95 degrees C), and cook 6 hours longer. Stir the beans after they have cooked for 3 hours. Once the beans are tender and the sauce has reduced and is sticky, remove from the oven, stir, recover, and allow to stand 15 minutes before serving.
