Ingredients

  • tablespoons balsamic vinegar 
  •  garlic cloves minced
  • teaspoons penzey's southwest seasoning italian freshly ground
  • 84 oz no-salt-added tomatoes crushed canned
  • tablespoons olive oil 
  • teaspoons salt 
  • tablespoon sugar 
  • cups vegetable broth fat-free low-sodium
  • cups onions yellow chopped ( 3 medium)

Directions

  1. Saut onions in hot oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat 5 minutes or until tender.
  2. Add sugar and next 3 ingredients; saut 1 minute. Stir in vinegar; cook 30 seconds.
  3. Add broth and tomatoes. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 55 minutes or until sauce thickens.
  4. Note: We tested with McCormick Italian Herb Seasoning Grinder (set on medium) and Dei Fratelli Crushed Tomatoes.
