Ingredients

  •  ancho chiles 
  • 1.5 teaspoons double-acting baking powder 
  • cups less-sodium chicken broth fat-free
  • 1.5 cups corn kernels fresh ( 3 ears)
  • 3.8 cups i would have liked to use an version of masa but i couldn't find one at the time of making the tamal 
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt 
  • 0.3 cup lard chilled
  • 0.3 cup lard chilled

Directions

  1. Combine chicken broth and ancho chiles in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH for 2 minutes or until chiles are tender; cool slightly,
  2. Combine broth mixture and corn in a blender; process until smooth.
  3. Lightly spoon masa harina into dry measuring cups; level with a knife.
  4. Combine masa harina, salt, and baking powder, stirring well with a whisk.
  5. Cut in lard with a pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  6. Add broth mixture to masa mixture; stir until a soft dough forms. Cover and chill until ready to use.
