  •  bay leaves 
  • teaspoon peppercorns whole black
  • pounds bratwurst ( 4 large links)
  • servings crusty rolls for serving
  • tablespoons olive oil 
  • servings spicy brown mustard for serving
  • large onion

Directions

  1. In a Dutch oven over medium heat, add the oil, onions, peppercorns and bay leaf.
  2. Add the sausage.
  3. Saute until the sausages begin to brown and the onions soften, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the ale. Be sure to turn the sausages over and continue cooking, another 2 minutes. Cook on low for 20 minutes.
  5. Serve the bratwurst with the braised onions on crusty rolls with spicy mustard.
