Ingredients

  • cups flour 
  • 0.5 teaspoon almond extract 
  • 0.5 cup almonds sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon double-acting baking powder 
  • cup butter unsalted room temperature (2 sticks)
  • 1.3 cups t brown sugar dark packed (firmly )
  • tablespoons espresso powder instant
  • 0.3 teaspoon salt 
  • cup semi chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Whisk first 3ingredients in medium bowl to blend.
  3. Using electric mixer, beat butterand sugar in another medium bowluntil blended, about 2 minutes.
  4. Addespresso powder and almond extract;beat 1 minute. Stir in flour mixture in3 additions, mixing until just absorbedafter each addition. Stir in chocolatechips and almonds (dough will be thick).
  5. Turn dough out onto ungreasedrimmed baking sheet. Using hands, pressdough into 12-inch square. Pierce all overwith fork at 1-inch intervals.
  6. Bake until edges are lightly brownedand beginning to crisp, 45 to 50 minutes.Cool on sheet 1 minute.
  7. Cut into 48 bars.Immediately transfer to rack; cool (barswill crisp as they cool). DO AHEAD: Canbe made 5 days ahead. Store in airtightcontainer at room temperature.
