Ingredients

  • cup cranberries fresh
  • 0.5 cup sherry (such as Lustau East India Solera)
  • 1.5 cups hendrick's gin dry (such as Beefeater or Tanqueray)
  •  optional: lemon cut into wedges
  •  mint leaves 
  • 0.5  cranberry-orange relish sliced into thin rounds
  • 0.8 cup sugar

Directions

  1. Bring sugar and 3/4 cup water to a boilin a medium saucepan; stir until sugaris dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Pouroff all but 1 cup simple syrup; refrigerateremaining syrup for another use.
  4. Heat syrup in pan almost to a boil;reduce heat to medium.
  5. Add cranberriesand simmer until they just begin toburst, 2-3 minutes.
  6. Let cool in syrup.
  7. Place 2 tablespoons drained cranberriesand 6 tablespoons cranberry syrup in a largepitcher.
  8. Add lemon wedges and orangeslices. Using a muddler or woodenspoon, vigorously mash fruit. Stir ingin and Sherry.
  9. Let steep for 5 minutes.
  10. Strain into a medium pitcher. Fill3 glasses with crushed ice.
  11. Pour half ofmixture into a cocktail shaker. Fill withice; shake vigorously for 10 seconds.Strain into prepared glasses, thenmound with more crushed ice.
  12. Garnisheach with a mint sprig and 3 cranberries.Repeat to make 3 more cocktails.
  13. Omit gin and Sherry and add 1/4 cup tonic or spicy ginger ale.
