If you’re looking for a simple yet elegant dish that quietly steals the show, these Creamed Onions with Wine might be exactly what you’ve been missing. This recipe transforms humble white boiling onions into a luxurious, velvety appetizer that feels right at home on a festive antipasti platter, as a refined starter, or even as a cozy snack to share. The magic lies in slowly simmering the onions in Chardonnay, allowing them to soak up the wine’s delicate fruity notes before being enveloped in rich heavy cream.
What makes this dish especially appealing is how effortlessly it fits into different diets and occasions. It’s fully vegetarian and naturally gluten free, so it can be enjoyed by a wide range of guests without extra fuss. Despite its indulgent, creamy texture and buttery finish, each serving clocks in at around 230 kcal, making it a satisfying yet reasonable choice when you want something special without going overboard. The gentle fragrance of bay leaf and thyme adds a subtle herbal depth that feels both comforting and sophisticated.
With just one pot and about 45 minutes, you’ll have a warm, silky bowl of creamed onions that pairs beautifully with crusty bread, crisp salads, or a glass of the same Chardonnay used in the recipe.
