Indulge in a culinary adventure with our Crispy Duck & Baked Apples, a delightful dish that perfectly balances rich flavors and exquisite textures. This gluten-free recipe is perfect for special occasions or a cozy family dinner, guaranteed to impress your guests with a touch of elegance. The succulent duck, renowned for its high protein content and robust taste, is slow-roasted to perfection, ensuring a crispy skin that crackles with every bite.

As the duck cooks low and slow, its fat renders down beautifully, enhancing the overall flavor and tenderness of the meat. The addition of baked apples introduces a delightful sweetness that complements the savory richness of the duck, making every mouthful an experience to savor. Scoring the apples prevents them from bursting, allowing them to caramelize just right while absorbing the aromatic essence of the roasting duck.

With a total preparation time of 250 minutes, this recipe is ideal for those who appreciate the art of cooking. The anticipation builds as the duck transforms into a golden masterpiece, while the apples soften and release their natural juices, creating a heavenly pairing. Serve this dish alongside your favorite sides, and watch as everyone gathers around the table, eager to indulge in this extraordinary feast. Get ready to impress with your culinary skills and delight in the indulgence of Crispy Duck & Baked Apples!

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 120C/fan 100C/gas . Pull any excess fat from the ducks cavity and use a roasting fork or skewer to prick the skin of the duck all over do this lightly as you dont want to pierce the meat. Rub the duck generously inside and out with flaky sea salt, then lay, breast-side down, on a rack over a roasting tray. Roast the duck for 3 hrs, pricking again every now and then should you happen to pass by. While the duck is cooking, score a line gently around the middle of each apple and set aside (this stops them exploding when they cook).
  2. After 3 hrs, remove duck from the oven and turn the heat to 180C/fan 160C/gas
  3. Sit the duck on a plate and carefully pour away most of the fat from the tin. Return the duck to the rack, right way up, and continue to roast for 30 mins.
  4. Put the apples in under the duck or around the side and roast for a final 30 mins. By now you should have the crispiest duck and apples on the verge of collapse. Leave the duck to rest for 10 mins, then carve and serve with the apples.
