  • 0.3 cup celery finely chopped
  • teaspoon basil dried
  • teaspoon fennel seeds 
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic minced
  • 0.3 teaspoon ground pepper black
  • tablespoons olive oil 
  • 0.5 cup onion chopped
  • teaspoon oregano dried
  • tablespoons parmesan cheese grated
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • ounce tomato paste canned
  • 0.5 teaspoon sugar white

Directions

  1. Melt butter with olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir onion, celery, and garlic in the butter mixture until the onion is soft and translucent, 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Stir tomato sauce and tomato paste into the onion mixture until smooth; add Parmesan cheese, fennel seeds, basil, oregano, salt, sugar, pepper, and bay leaf. Stir the sauce and bring to a slow simmer; cook at a slow simmer for 1 hour.
  3. Remove and discard bay leaf before use.
