  • teaspoon baking soda 
  •  eggs 
  • 3.5 cups flour all-purpose sifted
  • ounce fruit cocktail drained canned
  • teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  • teaspoon ground cloves 
  • tablespoons blackstrap molasses 
  • cup raisins 
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • cup shortening 
  • teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • cup walnuts chopped
  • tablespoons water hot
  • 1.5 cups sugar white

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, dissolve baking soda in warm water.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and the sugar. Beat the eggs and mix in. Stir in molasses, chopped nuts, fruit cocktail, raisins and vanilla.
  3. Mix in spices, baking soda and salt. Sift the flour and stir in.
  4. Mix until well blended.
