Ingredients

  • large bay leaves 
  • 1.5 cups beef broth 
  • ounce tomato sauce canned
  • 28 ounce canned tomatoes crushed canned
  • teaspoon chilies dried to taste (or )
  • teaspoons basil dried
  • 0.5 cup wine dry red
  •  garlic clove finely chopped to taste (or , I like lots of garlic!)
  • teaspoon pepper fresh black
  • 0.5 lb ground sausage italian
  • lb ground beef lean
  • 0.8 lb mushrooms fresh whole drained canned (or use a couple cans mushrooms, but is better!)
  • 0.3 cup olive oil (or use enough sauce to coat the bottom of your skillet)
  • medium onion finely chopped
  • teaspoons oregano 
  • servings parmesan cheese fresh grated
  • tablespoon tomato sauce good to taste (or a tomato sauce needs lots of salt)
  • ounce canned tomatoes canned
  • teaspoon granulated sugar white
  • tablespoon worcestershire sauce to taste (or )

Directions

  1. In a Dutch oven heat oil, then add in the basil, oregano, chili flakes, bay leaf and onion; saute, stirring with a wooden spoon for about 4 minutes (this will release the flavors in the spices).
  2. Add in garlic and cook for 2 minutes.
  3. Add in tomato paste and cook stirring with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes.
  4. Add in ground beef and sausage meat; cook until well browned (about 10 minutes) drain any fat.
  5. Add in the wine and simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring.
  6. Add in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, mushrooms, sugar, 2 tablespoons salt, Worcestershire sauce; bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer partially covered for about 2 hours (or you can simmer for longer on low heat).Season with black pepper.
  7. Remove the bay leaf and serve over hot cooked pasta then sprinkle with lots grated Parmesan cheese.
