If you're craving a flavorful twist on the classic burger, these Korean Barbecue Burgers are a must-try. Infused with the rich, nutty aroma of dark sesame oil and the zing of fresh ginger and garlic, they offer an exciting blend of Asian-inspired spices that elevate the traditional grilled patty to new heights. Each bite bursts with a perfect balance of savory, sweet, and slightly spicy notes thanks to the thoughtful mix of brown sugar, soy sauce, and freshly ground black pepper.

What makes this recipe even more appealing is how accessible and quick it is—ready in just 45 minutes, making it an ideal option for lunch or dinner. Plus, it's dairy-free, catering to those with dietary preferences or restrictions without compromising on taste. Grilling these patties to juicy perfection and resting them briefly allows the flavors to meld beautifully, while toasting whole wheat buns adds a wholesome texture that pairs wonderfully with crisp red leaf lettuce and thinly sliced radishes, lending a refreshing crunch and a pop of color.

Another fantastic feature is the versatility this dish offers when it comes to beverage pairings. For beer aficionados, a classic brown ale complements the burger’s gingery Asian spices with its mild sweetness and toasted nut flavors, enhancing every mouthful. Whether you're hosting a casual backyard cookout or just looking to spice up your burger night, these Korean Barbecue Burgers promise a satisfying and memorable meal that blends bold flavors with simple preparation.

  •  garlic cloves minced
  • 0.5 cup green onions chopped
  • 1.5 pounds ground sirloin
  • ounce hamburger buns whole wheat split
  • leaf lettuce leaves red
  • tablespoons soya sauce low-sodium
  • tablespoons radishes thinly sliced

Equipment

  • grill
  • kitchen thermometer

Directions

  1. Prepare grill.
  2. Combine first 8 ingredients. Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions, shaping each into a 1/2-inch-thick patty.
  3. Place patties on a grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 6 minutes on each side or until a thermometer registers 16
  4. Remove from grill; let patties stand 5 minutes.
  5. Place buns, cut sides down, on grill rack; grill 1 minute or until toasted.
  6. Place 1 patty on bottom half of each bun; top each serving with 1 lettuce leaf, 1 tablespoon radishes, and top half of bun.
  7. Beer note: With their gingery Asian spice, these burgers call for a classic brown ale like Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale ($10 for four 12-ounce bottles). With a moderate five percent alcohol and a nicely rounded taste, this beer's toasted nut flavor complements the burgers' nutty sesame oil essence. Darker beers are also a great match with the crisp snap of radishes. --Jeffery Lindenmuth
