Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar 
  • 1.3 cups lime 
  • 1.8 cups juice of lime fresh (10 limes)
  • 2.3 cups water 
  • 0.5  watermelon chilled cut into slices or wedges
  •  star anise whole

Directions

  1. Boil sugars, water, and star anise, stirring, until sugars are dissolved.
  2. Pour syrup through a fine sieve into a bowl, discarding solids. Cool syrup.
  3. Stir in lime juice.
  4. Freeze in a 13- by 9- by 2-inch glass dish, stirring occasionally with a fork, until liquid is frozen and granular, about 6 hours.
  5. Serve lime ice on watermelon.
  6. Lime ice may be made 2 days ahead and kept frozen, covered.
