Looking for a refreshing drink that perfectly balances tartness and sweetness? Look no further than this delightful Limeade with Mint! Perfect for hot summer days or any time you crave a burst of citrus flavor, this homemade beverage is both invigorating and simple to prepare. With just a handful of ingredients, you'll have a thirst-quenching drink that is not only delicious but also caters to various dietary preferences—it's vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free!

The secret to this zesty drink lies in its homemade simple syrup, which infuses the vibrant zest of lime into the sugar as it melts. This, combined with freshly squeezed lime juice, creates a beautifully balanced flavor profile that is customizable to your taste! Whether you prefer a sweeter limeade or one with a tangier kick, this recipe allows you to adjust the sweetness to your liking.

But what really takes this limeade to the next level is the addition of fresh mint. The aromatic mint leaves add a refreshing note that pairs exquisitely with the citrusy lime, making each sip feel like a mini-vacation in a glass. Serve it chilled or over ice, and you'll impress friends and family alike with this vibrant concoction. Enjoy a little taste of summer all year round with our Limeade with Mint!

Ingredients

  • Tbsp lime zest grated
  • cup juice of lime (from 4-6 Persian limes)
  • 0.8 cup granulated sugar
  • cups water
  • sprigs several of mint fresh

Equipment

  • bowl
  • sauce pan
  • sieve

Directions

  1. Make simple syrup: In a small saucepan bring to a boil the sugar, one cup of water, and the lime zest. Once the sugar is dissolved (which it should be by the time the water boils), remove from heat and let cool for for a few minutes.
  2. The amount of sugar is a guideline, it depends on how sweet you like your limeade and how tart your particular limes are.
  3. Strain out lime zest:
  4. Place a strainer over a bowl, or wide-mouthed serving container, and pour the sugar syrup through it, straining out the lime zest.
  5. Add the lime juice and 2 cups of water. Taste for sour/sweet balance. If too sweet, add a little more lime juice.
  6. Add several sprigs of fresh mint.
  7. Chill, or serve immediately over ice.
