Ingredients

  • cup firmly brown sugar packed (Add more if needed)
  • tablespoons basil fresh chopped
  • tablespoons chives fresh chopped
  • tablespoons parsley fresh chopped
  • 10  garlic cloves chopped
  • tablespoons penzey's southwest seasoning italian
  • tablespoons juice of lime 
  • tablespoons olive oil 
  • cups onions chopped
  • cups and/or peppers sweet hot chopped
  • ounce tomato paste canned
  • cups tomatoes pureed
  • cups tomatoes chopped
  • cups vinegar

Directions

  1. Combine first 11 ingredients in a saucepan over medium-low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add basil and remaining herbs.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Serve immediately or chill.
  5. (This recipe makes a 2 1/2-quart batch. You may want to half it.)
