  •  bay leaf 
  • 0.1 teaspoon pepper black freshly ground
  • 0.3 cup bulgur uncooked
  •  garlic cloves minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt 
  • teaspoon olive oil 
  • cup onion chopped
  • 0.3 cup pearl barley uncooked
  • 0.3 cup pecans toasted chopped
  • 2.3 cups vegetable broth organic (such as Swanson Certified )
  • 0.3 cup kasha uncooked (buckwheat groats)

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onion and garlic to pan; saut 3 minutes or until onion is tender.
  3. Add broth and next 5 ingredients (through bay leaf) to pan; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.
  4. Remove from heat. Discard bay leaf. Fluff with a fork; stir in pecans and pepper.
