  • tablespoon arrowroot powder 
  •  bay leaf 
  • cups beef broth 
  • servings pepper black freshly ground
  • tablespoon butter 
  • 0.5 teaspoon thyme leaves dried
  • 0.5 cup mushrooms chopped
  • 0.3 cup red wine 
  • servings salt to taste
  • tablespoon shallots minced

Directions

  1. In a medium saute pan, melt 1/4 cup butter over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced mushrooms; cook and stir until soft.
  3. Remove mushrooms from pan, and set aside.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon butter to pan, and melt .
  5. Add shallots; cook and stir until translucent.
  6. Add mushrooms, and cook until soft.
  7. Add thyme, bay leaf, and red wine. Reduce.
  8. In a small bowl, dissolve arrowroot in 1/4 cup cold beef broth. Stir remaining broth into sauce, and bring to a boil.
  9. Whisk in arrowroot mixture, and stir until thick.
  10. Add reserved mushrooms. Season to taste with freshly ground black pepper and salt.
