  • 10 cups water 
  • pound navy beans dried
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.3 cup blackstrap molasses 
  • teaspoon salt 
  • slices bacon crumbled cooked
  • 0.5 cup onion chopped
  • cups water

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Heat 10 cups water and the beans to boiling in ovenproof Dutch oven. Boil uncovered 2 minutes. Stir in remaining ingredients except 3 cups water.
  3. Cover and bake 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in 3 cups water.
  5. Bake uncovered 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes longer, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender and desired consistency.
