Ingredients

  • 1.5 teaspoons thyme leaves fresh
  • large garlic clove minced
  • cup half and half 
  • pound russet potatoes peeled cut into 1/6-inch-thick slices
  • 1.3 teaspoons salt 
  •  shallots thinly sliced
  • pound turnips peeled cut into 1/6-inch-thick slices
  • cups whipping cream

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine first 6 ingredients in heavy medium saucepan. Bring to simmer.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Arrange potatoes and turnips in 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish, alternating and overlapping slightly.
  5. Pour warm cream mixture over.
  6. Sprinkle with pepper.
  7. Bake until vegetables are tender and top is golden brown, about 45 minutes. Cool slightly, then serve.
