Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb ground beef 80% lean (at least )
  • 0.5 cup onion chopped
  • cloves garlic finely chopped
  • tablespoon fennel seeds 
  • teaspoon salt 
  • 0.3 teaspoon pepper 
  • 0.5 cup red wine dry red
  • tablespoon brown sugar packed
  • 28 oz canned tomatoes diced organic undrained canned
  • teaspoon oregano dried
  • 10  sandwich rolls split

Directions

  1. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, cook beef, onion and garlic over medium-high heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked and onion is tender; drain. Stir in fennel seed, salt and pepper.
  2. Stir in wine, brown sugar, tomatoes and oregano.
  3. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered about 15 minutes or until mixture is slightly thickened.
  4. Spoon mixture into buns.
