Vanilla sauce is a timeless classic that adds a touch of elegance to any dessert. Whether drizzled over a slice of cake, poured onto fresh fruit, or used as a dip for cookies, this luscious sauce elevates simple treats into something extraordinary. Made with wholesome ingredients, our vanilla sauce is both vegetarian and gluten-free, making it a delightful choice for nearly any occasion.

The process of creating this velvety sauce is not only rewarding but also surprisingly simple. With just a few basic items—egg yolks, sugar, whole milk, and pure vanilla extract—you can whip up a batch that is undeniably richer than store-bought versions. A hint of liquor can add an extra layer of flavor if you're feeling adventurous, but it's entirely optional. The gentle cooking technique allows flavors to meld beautifully, ensuring that each spoonful bursts with creamy vanilla goodness.

In just 45 minutes, you can prepare enough sauce to serve up to six people, with each serving containing only 117 calories—perfect for those who want to indulge without the guilt. Remember to chill it for a couple of hours for the best texture, transforming it into a refreshing finish to any dinner party or family gathering. Embrace the joy of cooking and treat your loved ones to this delightful homemade vanilla sauce that promises to impress!

Ingredients

  •  egg yolk
  • 2.3 ounces granulated sugar
  • tablespoons rum
  • 0.1 teaspoon sea salt fine
  • teaspoon vanilla extract pure
  • cup milk whole

Equipment

  • bowl
  • sauce pan
  • whisk
  • sieve

Directions

  1. Heat the milk in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-low heat just until warm. In a bowl, whisk together the yolks, sugar, and salt until slightly thickened and lighter in color. Slowly pour half of the warm milk into the yolkmixture, whisking continuously. Next, pour the yolk mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and thickly coats the back of a spoon. Set a bowl over an ice bath, then strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve set over the bowl.
  2. Add the vanilla and stir until cool. Stir in liquor to taste, then refrigerate for about 2 hours, until completely chilled, before serving.
