  • 0.3 teaspoon kosher salt 
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt 
  • cup buttermilk 1% low-fat
  • 2.3 cups milk 2% divided reduced-fat
  • cup onion chopped
  • 0.3 pound pork breakfast sausage reduced-fat
  • teaspoon butter unsalted
  • 0.3 cup vegetable shortening

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 45
  2. Weigh or lightly spoon 2 cups flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife.
  3. Combine flour and next 3 ingredients (through salt) in a bowl; cut in shortening with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  4. Add buttermilk; stir just until moist.

  13. Combine 2 1/2 tablespoons flour and 1/4 cup milk, stirring with a whisk until well blended to form a slurry. Stir slurry into sausage mixture. Cook, stirring constantly, 3 minutes or until gravy is thick and bubbly.
  14. Cut biscuits in half. Spoon gravy evenly over biscuit halves.
