  • cups cooking apple diced
  • teaspoons double-acting baking powder 
  • 0.3 cup butter melted
  • large eggs 
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • cup milk 
  • 0.3 cup orange juice fresh
  • teaspoons orange rind grated
  • 36 servings powdered sugar sifted
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • 0.5 cup sugar 
  • teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 36 servings vegetable oil

Directions

  1. Combine first 4 ingredients; make a well in center of mixture.
  2. Combine egg, milk, and butter, stirring well; stir in orange rind and next 3 ingredients.
  3. Add to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  4. Pour oil to a depth of 2 inches into a large Dutch oven; heat to 35
  5. Drop batter by rounded tablespoonfuls into hot oil; fry fritters in batches 1 1/2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  6. Drain fritters well on paper towels, and cool slightly.
  7. Sprinkle with sifted powdered sugar.
