Ingredients

  • cup flour 
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.3 teaspoon salt 
  • 0.5 cup butter cut into small pieces
  • cups apples peeled thinly sliced (6 medium)
  • tablespoons brown sugar packed
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon 
  • teaspoons juice of lemon 
  • box cake mix yellow
  • 1.3 cups water 
  • 0.3 cup cooking oil 
  •  eggs

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Spray bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan cooking spray.
  2. In medium bowl, stir together flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar and the salt. With pastry blender or fork, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, gently stir together Apple
  4. Mixture ingredients; set aside.
  5. In large bowl, beat Cake ingredients with electric mixer on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.
  6. Pour into pan.
  7. Arrange apple mixture evenly over cake batter; press lightly into batter.
  8. Sprinkle with Topping.
  9. Bake 40 to 45 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 2 hours. Store covered at room temperature.
