Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon double-acting baking powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 4 eggs beaten
- 6 cups flour all-purpose
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 72 servings optional: colored sugar
- 16 oz butter cream frosting
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Directions
- Blend together sugar, shortening and eggs.
- Add vanilla and buttermilk.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; stir into sugar mixture.
- Add more flour as needed to make a firm dough.
- Chill for 2 to 3 hours or overnight.
- On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut out with cookie cutters; place on greased baking sheets.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 7 to 8 minutes.
- Let cool. Frost and decorate as desired.
