Ingredients

  • 1.3 cups flour all-purpose
  • cup cornmeal 
  • tablespoon sugar 
  • teaspoons double-acting baking powder 
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • 0.3 cup butter firm
  • 0.3 cup milk 
  •  eggs beaten
  • ounces cheddar cheese shredded
  • ounces to 2 chilies slit green undrained chopped canned
  • serving honey

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 425°. Grease cookie sheet.
  2. Mix flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt in large bowl.
  3. Cut in margarine, using pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives, until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in milk, egg, cheese and chilies.
  4. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead lightly 10 times. Pat or roll into an 8- inch circle on cookie sheet.
  5. Cut into 8 wedges, but do not separate.
  6. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet; carefully separate wedges.
  7. Serve warm with honey.
