  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda 
  • cup t brown sugar dark packed
  • tablespoons butter at room temperature
  • large eggs 
  • 1.5 cups flour all-purpose
  • tablespoons granulated sugar 
  • cups rolled oats 
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • cup semi chocolate chips 
  • 0.5 cup apple sauce unsweetened
  • teaspoon vanilla 
  • tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, with an electric mixer on medium speed, beat butter, oil, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in egg, applesauce, and vanilla until well blended.

  3. Spread dough evenly in a lightly oiled 8-inch square baking pan.
  4. Sprinkle top evenly with granulated sugar.
  5. Bake in a 350 oven until pale golden brown, about 15 minutes.
  6. Let cool on a rack about 10 minutes, then cut into 1- by 4-inch bars.
  7. Let cool completely.
