  • cup flour whole wheat
  • 0.5 cup flour all-purpose
  • 0.8 cup granulated sugar 
  • 0.8 teaspoon double-acting baking powder 
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • 0.3 teaspoon baking soda 
  • 0.5 cup butter cold cut into pieces
  • 0.7 cup buttermilk 
  • teaspoon vanilla 
  •  eggs 
  • 0.5 cup semisweet chocolate chips miniature
  • 0.3 cup flour whole wheat
  • 0.3 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.3 cup butter cold
  • 0.3 cup walnut pieces chopped

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom only of 8-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  2. In large bowl, mix 1 cup whole wheat flour, the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
  3. Cut in butter, using pastry blender or fork, until mixture is crumbly.
  4. Add buttermilk, vanilla and egg; stir until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips.
  5. Spread in pan.
  6. In small bowl, mix streusel ingredients with fork until mixture is crumbly.
  7. Sprinkle over batter.
  8. Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  9. Serve warm or cool.
