At its core, the English Cottage Pie is a celebration of comfort food at its finest. The base is a savory filling of extra-lean ground beef, slow-cooked with a medley of vegetables such as cremini mushrooms, carrots, and onions. The meat mixture is enriched with aromatic spices like fresh thyme and pepper, along with a touch of no-salt-added tomato paste, ensuring a depth of flavor that's both comforting and sophisticated.

The crowning glory of this dish is the layer of creamy mashed potatoes, seasoned to perfection and generously topped with shredded reduced-fat sharp white cheddar cheese. As the pie bakes, the potatoes turn a beautiful golden brown, creating a tempting contrast with the rich beef filling beneath. For an added touch of flair, sprinkle a dash of paprika over the top before baking.

What sets this English Cottage Pie apart is its commitment to quality and simplicity. Using leftover mashed potatoes not only adds a homemade touch but also reduces waste. The result is a dish that's as eco-friendly as it is delicious. So, grab your frying pan and baking dish, and let's get cooking. Your taste buds are in for a treat with this timeless English Cottage Pie.
