  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda 
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar packed
  • 0.5 cup butter softened
  • cup dates pitted chopped
  •  eggs 
  • cups flour all-purpose
  • teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  • 0.3 teaspoon ground cloves 
  • 0.5 teaspoon nutmeg 
  • cup raisins 
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt 
  • 0.5 cup shortening 
  • 0.5 cup walnut pieces chopped

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Cream together the shortening and the butter.
  3. Add the brown sugar and cream until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs until well blended.
  4. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves over the creamed mixture.
  5. Mix in then stir in the raisins, nuts and dates.
