  • 2.3 cups flour all-purpose
  • 0.5 cup shortening 
  • 0.3 cup sugar 
  • cup blackstrap molasses 
  • 0.8 cup water hot
  • teaspoon baking soda 
  • teaspoon ground ginger 
  • teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  • 0.8 teaspoon salt 
  •  eggs 
  • serving butterscotch topping

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 325°F. Grease and flour bottom and sides of square pan, 9x9x2 inches.
  2. Beat all ingredients with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on medium speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.
  3. Pour into pan.
  4. Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  5. Serve warm or cool.
